Job description

LIC is a farmer-owned co-operative that’s been supporting herd improvement in New Zealand’s dairy sector for more than 115 years. We’re focused on providing superior genetics, reliable testing and diagnostics, integrated on-farm software, and great customer service, all designed to help farmers make smarter decisions every day.

As a proud generational co-operative, we’re here for farmers, their families, and rural communities, not just for today, but for the future. And none of it happens without our people. Whether on farm, in the lab, or behind the scenes, every one of us plays a part in helping New Zealand farmers succeed.

About the Role:

Love being out on farm, working with animals and supporting New Zealand dairy farmers? Join LIC's Operations & Service team and play an important role in delivering the services our customers rely on every day.

As an On Farm Services Technician, you'll work closely with farmers across your region, supporting herd testing activities and delivering a range of valuable animal services. No two days are the same. One day you could be assisting with herd testing during milking, and the next you could be carrying out DNA sampling, animal tagging, herd audits or weighing livestock.

You’ll be part of a passionate team committed to safety, customer service and helping farmers make informed decisions that improve the performance of their herds. Through the work you do, you’ll make a direct contribution to New Zealand's dairy industry and the farmers who help feed the world. Please note: You will need to be able to work flexible hours.

Your Key Focus:

In this hands-on role, you’ll:

  • Support herd testing activities, ensuring Dairy Herd Testing Standards are followed at all times.

  • Set up, operate and pack down herd testing equipment accurately and efficiently.

  • Collect milk samples and assist customers with herd testing processes during milking.

  • Use LIC technology, including the EZ Link handheld device, and provide basic guidance to customers where required.

  • Deliver a range of on-farm services including DNA sampling, animal tagging, weighing and herd audits.

  • Complete documentation accurately and on time to support efficient processing and reporting.

  • Maintain high Health and Safety standards and follow all quality and operational procedures.

  • Assist as a backup Herd Test Technician when required, supporting daily schedules and customer service delivery.

What You’ll Bring...

We’re looking for someone who enjoys practical, outdoor work and is passionate about supporting farmers and the dairy industry.

You’ll bring:

  • Knowledge of the dairy industry and an understanding of dairy farming practices.

  • Confidence working around livestock and in farm environments.

  • Strong organisational and time management skills.

  • A commitment to Health and Safety and quality standards.

  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach.

  • A current full driver's licence.

  • Experience with MINDA recording systems would be an advantage.

Why Join LIC?
