Overview

We're looking for a School Travel Coordinator to join our Active Modes team. This permanent role offers the chance to contribute to AT's Strategic goals and make a meaningful difference in how Auckland moves.

School travel has a negative impact on traffic congestion and safety, yet many of these everyday journeys are less than 3km, and longer journeys are often served by school buses. This role is about encouraging and educating pupils and whanau about safe alternatives to private car travel, and safer travel behaviour for all modes around schools.

The job requires working closely with Auckland schools, parent/ adult volunteers, NZ Police and others to deliver the Travelwise Schools Programme. This encompasses initiatives like the Walking School Bus to increase active travel and improve road safety around schools.

As part of the Active Modes team, you would also be expected to apply your specialist knowledge, such as auditing new routes for walking buses, to support capital programme or PT service improvements and other school facing projects.

Responsibilities
  • Meeting with school senior management to promote the Travelwise Schools programme.
  • Working with teachers to develop Safe School Travel plans for their schools
  • Guiding student leaders to plan and deliver activities in their schools
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of activities to promote active travel and road safety in schools including pedestrian, cycle and scooter safety initiatives
  • Engaging parents/adult volunteers to develop, maintain and promote the Walking School Bus.
  • Working with schools, volunteers, internal teams, NZ Police and others to resolve safety issues around schools and Walking School Bus routes
  • Working with internal teams and external partners on the delivery of safety, infrastructure and active travel projects and programmes around active Travelwise schools
  • Providing consultation communication and coordinate with communities, schools and other stakeholder groups on projects
  • Leading or participating in project teams and region- wide events to enhance the Travelwise Schools programme.
  • Attending and facilitating internal and external stakeholder meetings
Qualifications
  • A qualification in a relevant discipline such as Education, Community Engagement, Event Management, Psychology, Communication
  • At least two years' experiences in a related area Managed programmes, projects, or events
  • Engaged communities for behaviour change
  • Working with Maori communities
  • Knowledge of Te Reo and Tikanga
  • Worked in a school or community environment
  • Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
