Job summary

A primary and intermediate school in Otago, New Zealand, is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated educator to join their team as a classroom teacher for years 3 to 6. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, culturally responsive, and possess strong interpersonal and organisational skills. A strength in Te Reo Māori, physical education, or music is advantageous. This role is not suitable for beginning teachers.

Our school is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated educator to join our team as a teacher prepared to teach in a year group between Y3–6 as a classroom teacher. We are looking for someone who is collaborative, reflective, and eager to contribute to a dynamic and future-focused team. Building strong relationships with ākonga, whānau, and colleagues is central to who we are. The ideal candidate will bring excellent interpersonal, organisational, and collaborative skills, a positive attitude, and a good sense of humour. We are a community-centred kura, proud of the rich layers that make us unique to Taieri.

Not suitable for beginning teacher

  • Demonstrates strong teaching and learning pedagogy across the curriculum, including sound assessment practices
  • Brings a range of experience and expertise that will enhance and strengthen our team
  • Embraces a culture of reflection, feedback, and ongoing professional growth
  • Shows cultural responsiveness, a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and actively promotes te reo Māori and tikanga Māori across the kura
  • Has a solid understanding of structured approaches to literacy and mathematics
  • Possesses experience and confidence working with learners in the middle or senior school
  • Is innovative, creative, digitally capable, and willing to think beyond the conventional
  • Has a proven ability to develop inclusive and effective approaches that support all learners.

A strength in Te Reo Māori, physical education, or music would be advantageous.
