Job summary

Rockgas in Christchurch is seeking a Commercial Analyst to connect operational, financial, customer and market data to tell a clear story about business performance and opportunity.

You’ll build models, develop Power BI dashboards, support monthly forecasting and business cases, and present actionable insights to leaders across the business.

We’re looking for a Commercial Analyst who can connect operational, financial, customer and market data to tell a clear story about business performance and opportunity.

This is a role for someone who enjoys building models and uncovering insights, but who can also step back, see the bigger picture and confidently explain what the numbers mean. You’ll work closely with leaders and teams across Rockgas, turning complex information into practical recommendations that support sound commercial decisions and sustainable value.

What you’ll be doing

This isn’t a role where you’ll simply produce reports and send them on. You’ll help shape the conversations and decisions that follow.

You’ll support monthly performance reporting and forecasting, build commercial and financial models, and analyse revenue, margin, pricing, costs and operational performance. You’ll also develop meaningful Power BI dashboards, support business cases and investment decisions, and track whether approved initiatives are delivering the expected benefits.

A key requirement of the role is bringing together information from across the business to identify trends, risks and opportunities, then presenting clear, credible insights people can act on. You’ll also find smarter ways of working by automating manual processes, simplifying reporting and making business information easier to access and use.

Qualifications

About you

You’re likely to have experience (~3-5 years) in commercial finance, business partnering or commercial analysis, along with a relevant tertiary qualification.

As well as being commercially minded and naturally curious, we’re looking for someone who:

• Has strong forecasting, financial modelling and data interpretation skills
• Understands profit and loss statements, budgets and return-on-investment modelling
• Is highly capable in Power BI and advanced Excel, including developing dashboards
• Can turn detailed analysis into clear insights and practical recommendations
• Communicates confidently with leaders and stakeholders across the business
• Brings excellent attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture
• Enjoys improving processes, simplifying complexity and finding better ways to work
