Job summary

Environment Canterbury’s Rivers team is looking for an engineer to support flood protection works across North Canterbury. You will conduct field inspections, supervise contractors, and contribute to asset management while helping deliver safety and resilience for the region.

Based at Kainga Depot, you will coordinate with contractors, track progress on-site, and bring river engineering knowledge and safety focus to respond to floods and emergencies as part of a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Experience in contractor and budget management.
• Strong understanding of river engineering and flood protection.
• Experience with asset management practices.
• Ability to inspect assets in the field and supervise works.
• Knowledge of health and safety in field projects.
• Experience working with local government or resource management laws (preferable).

Responsibilities

• Conduct asset and field inspections for flood protection works.
• Organise and supervise contractors and track progress on-site.
• Liaise with partners and stakeholders during projects and emergencies.
• Support Kainga Depot-based operations across North Canterbury.
