Summary

Responsible for acquiring knowledge and developing the necessary skills to become a respiratory therapist. This role collaborates with licensed respiratory therapists to expand respiratory therapy skillset.

Essential Functions
  1. Acquires knowledge and develops the necessary skills to become a qualified respiratory therapist, including attending lectures, participating in laboratory sessions, and studying the theory and practice of respiratory therapy.
  2. Observes and shadows licensed respiratory therapists in various clinical settings to gain firsthand experience on applying theoretical concepts to real-life patient care.
  3. Under supervision, conducts patient assessments.
  4. Assists in developing and implementing respiratory care plans for patients.
  5. Monitors patients' responses to respiratory interventions and adjusts treatments accordingly.
  6. Maintains accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes and treatment plans.
Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent required. This role does not accept experience in lieu of a degree.

Licenses and Credentials
Experience

Completed prerequisite courses such as anatomy, biology, chemistry, etc. 0-1 year preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the respiratory system.
  • Knowledge of respiratory therapy techniques and equipment.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Ability to perform patient assessments and monitor patient progress.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting equipment and patient issues.
  • Ability to adapt in changing situations and respond appropriately in emergencies.
