Job summary

The University of Auckland is seeking a passionate Researcher Development Adviser - Māori to lead Māori researcher development programmes within Te Puna Tiketike | Research and Innovation Office. Embedded within the James Henare Research Centre, the role will design and deliver programmes, mentor initiatives, and strengthen research capability across the university.

You will engage with Māori communities, hapū, iwi, and stakeholders, apply Te Ao Māori perspectives, and contribute to a thriving

Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and culturally grounded Researcher Development Adviser - Māori to join Te Puna Tiketike | Research and Innovation Office. Embedded within the James Henare Research Centre, this role will lead the development and delivery of Māori researcher development programmes, learning opportunities, and mentoring initiatives that strengthen research capability across Waipapa Taumata Rau. The position plays a key role in supporting Māori researchers, fostering collaboration, and contributing to a thriving Māori research ecosystem.

Key responsibilities:

• Design and develop Māori researcher development programmes, workshops, and learning opportunities.
• Identify researcher capability gaps and develop initiatives that respond to evolving development needs.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to create culturally appropriate training and resources.
• Support initiatives that enhance Māori researcher capability and research funding success.
• Maintain and promote researcher development resources and learning opportunities.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of programmes and provide insights to inform continuous improvement.
• Build strong relationships across the University to support a connected and sustainable Māori research ecosystem

This is a fulltime, permanent position. The salary range for this role are $73,400 - $90,700 depending on skills and experience.

You will bring a strong commitment to kaupapa Māori and a genuine passion for empowering researchers to succeed. You are experienced in building trusted relationships and working collaboratively with Māori communities, researchers, organisations, hapū, and iwi. You enjoy creating engaging learning experiences, can navigate complexity with confidence, and are motivated by work that delivers meaningful impact for Māori research and scholarship

Our ideal candidate will bring:

• Experience working in kaupapa Māori contexts and building enduring relationships with Māori communities.
• Strong understanding of tikanga Māori and culturally appropriate engagement practices.
• Experience designing, facilitating, or delivering learning and development programmes.
• Ability to apply Te Ao Māori perspectives and Māori-centred approaches in professional practice.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, collaboration, and relationship management skills.
• Understanding of, or commitment to, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and their application within a tertiary environment.
