The University of Waikato seeks a Research Assistant to support cutting-edge research on bacteriophages. This part-time role in Hamilton includes managing laboratory operations, data collection, and contributing to a collaborative research environment, ideal for those passionate about innovative science.
Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
This exciting research-support role sits within the Division of Health and focuses on the cutting-edge study of bacteriophages and their potential applications, including phage therapies. As Research Assistant, you'll play a key part in supporting the daily operations of a dynamic research group-helping to manage laboratory facilities, coordinating research processes, and conducting lab-based tasks under expert guidance. You'll be involved in collecting and analysing data, contributing to a collaborative and knowledge-rich environment that values mātauranga Māori, tikanga Māori, and Te Reo Māori. This is an opportunity to grow your research skills while supporting meaningful, innovative science.
This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), fixed-term position for two years. The salary will range from $58,439 to $70,692 per year (pro-rata), depending on the skills, knowledge, and experience the successful candidate brings to the role. The ideal start date is prior to August 2025 (depending on availability), and the position will be based at our Hillcrest Campus. Part-time options will be considered. Subject to funding, future opportunities within the team may be possible beyond the initial two years.
