Job summary

Higgins is seeking a Renewals Manager to lead the renewals programme for our Wellington maintenance team. You will drive planning and delivery across a live transport network, balancing strategic planning with on‑the‑ground delivery, and collaborating with contract leadership and clients.

You will own asset-driven decisions, lead teams and oversee safety and quality while targeting excellent community outcomes and contract success.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Experience delivering renewals programmes and road projects.
  • Strong understanding of asset lifecycle, planning, cost control, and risk.
  • Knowledge of NZTA specifications and roading methodologies.
  • Experience with forward works scheduling and programme optimisation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and delivery of annual renewals programmes across the live transport network.
  • Use asset data and management systems to validate treatments and optimise delivery.
  • Oversee pavement rehabilitation, resurfacing and wider asset renewals activities.
  • Manage internal crews, subcontractors and suppliers to deliver safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor progress, budgets, risks and performance against contract objectives.
  • Manage variations, claims and programme changes.
  • Ensure quality assurance and quality control across projects.
  • Provide reporting and escalate risks as required.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, consultants and stakeholders.

Job description

Higgins is looking for a Renewals Manager to join our Wellington Maintenance Team.

In this role, you'll lead the planning and delivery of the annual renewals programme across a live transport network. Working closely with contract leadership, operational teams, and our client, you'll be responsible for ensuring renewals programme are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

This role suits someone who enjoys taking ownership, balancing strategic planning with delivery, and working collaboratively to achieve outstanding outcomes for our communities and clients.

What you'll be doing
  • Lead the planning and delivery of annual and forward works renewals programmes
  • Use asset data, condition insights, and management systems to validate treatment selections and optimise programme delivery
  • Oversee pavement rehabilitation, resurfacing, and wider asset renewals activities
  • Manage internal crews, subcontractors, and suppliers to deliver work safely and efficiently
  • Monitor programme progress, budgets, risks, and performance against contract objectives
  • Manage variations, claims, and programme changes
  • Ensure quality assurance and quality control processes are maintained across all projects
  • Provide clear reporting, risk identification, and escalation where required
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers, and stakeholders
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to contract success
What you'll bring
  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
  • Experience delivering renewals programmes, maintenance contracts, civil construction, or roading projects
  • Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management, programme planning, cost control, and risk management
  • Knowledge of NZTA specifications, industry standards, and roading methodologies
  • Experience with forward works programming, scheduling, and programme optimisation
  • Strong analytical skills and experience using asset management and digital delivery systems
  • Understanding of traffic management and health and safety requirements within operational environments
  • Ability to manage budgets, financial forecasting, and programme performance
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
