Job summary

Xero is seeking a Senior Data & AI Governance Specialist to shape how we treat data as a strategic asset and govern AI responsibly, so our teams can innovate with confidence and our customers can continue to trust us with what matters most. Reporting to the Director of Data & AI Governance, you will move beyond traditional compliance to provide hands-on enablement services that bridge policy and practice.

This role partners across the business to co-design pragmatic data and AI governance

Qualifications

• Knowledge of data governance frameworks and practices, including stewardship models and governance forums.
• Hands-on experience with AI governance addressing ethical, regulatory, and operational challenges at scale.
• Ability to translate complex regulatory and policy requirements into actionable guidance for diverse audiences.
• Experience bridging policy and technical implementation with engineers and SMEs.
• Familiarity with GDPR, EU AI Act, CCPA, and ISO 27001/SOC2 strengthens governance design.
• Growth mindset with a drive to automate and improve governance processes.

Responsibilities

• Evolve privacy, data and AI governance frameworks for rapid, responsible data use and AI adoption.
• Translate governance policies into practical, user-friendly guidance at scale and support adoption across the business.
• Deliver literacy programs and tailored resources to uplift data and AI capability across Xero.
• Collaborate with Regulatory, Privacy, and Risk functions to stay ahead of evolving legislation and customer expectations.
