Job summary

Karaka Special Treatment Unit (STU) at Waikeria Prison seeks a Reintegration Coordinator to lead reintegration planning and coordination for men in a structured therapeutic setting. You will complete reintegration needs assessments and work with the team to develop progression plans within prison and community release plans that promote safety and reducing re-offending.

You will connect participants with education, employment, housing and cultural supports, and help deliver reintegration

Qualifications

  • A background in Social Work would be advantageous.
  • Strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and sufficient knowledge of tikanga Māori to work safely and effectively with Māori tāne, whānau, hapu and iwi.
  • Understanding and ability to work within the Privacy Act 2020, Health Information Privacy Code 2020, Evidence Act 2006.

  • Complete reintegration needs assessments and develop progression plans within prison and release plans for the community.
  • Identify and connect men with personal and professional supports to meet practical, psychological, cultural and spiritual needs.
  • Assist in identifying education and employment opportunities and suitable housing matching risk profiles.

# Reintegration Coordinator - Waikeria at Ara Poutama Aotearoa (Department of Corrections), Waikato## Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role* Contribute to meaningful rehab outcomes* Opportunity to develop skills in a specialist therapeutic setting**Mō te tūnga | About the role**Karaka Special Treatment Unit (STU) is a dedicated therapeutic \"community of change\" at Waikeria Prison, providing a structured therapeutic environment to support the rehabilitation of men with a history of high-risk and violent and/or sexual offending. The STU delivers evidence-based psychological programmes to reduce reoffending to up to 48 men annually.You will work alongside our team of psychologists and programme facilitators who deliver the STU programmes. You will be required to complete reintegration needs assessments (using tools such as the Release Proposal Feasibility Assessment – Revised), and work closely with the men to develop progression plans within prison and release plans for the community that will give them the best chance to live a safe and crime-free life in the future.This will include identifying and connecting men with personal and professional supports who are able to meet their practical, psychological, cultural and spiritual needs; identifying and supporting their engagement in education and employment opportunities; and finding suitable accommodation that matches their risk profile and needs. You will also be responsible for developing and delivering or co-ordinating reintegration activities within our therapeutic community that help men develop important life skills.**He kōrero mōu | About you**In this role, you will need excellent organisation and communication skills, the ability to multi-task and deal with unexpected changes, be able to navigate complex whānau relationships with compassion, and form strong relationships with key service providers. All staff also need to have an understanding and the ability to work within the legal and ethical codes that underpin Ara Poutama Psychological Services (e.g. the Privacy Act 2020, Health Information Privacy Code 2020, Evidence Act 2006).**Ngā painga | The benefits**The full salary range applicable for this role is $95,080 - $102,776 per annum.
