Job description

Registrar Rural Hospital Medicine at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Taranaki, Taranaki
  • We are seeking to appoint a Rural Hospital Medicine Registrar from May – August 2025, covering our Emergency Department and Inpatient Ward at Hawera Hospital.

About the Role

  • The duration of this run is 3 months.
  • Areas covered: Hawera Inpatient Ward, Hawera Emergency Department (ED).
  • The run is accredited as a training position for specialist qualification by RNZCGP.

The Registrar is responsible to their consultant for the clinical management of inpatients, including admission, clerking of acute admissions, ward rounds, and routine ward work. They will also initiate treatments and manage patients in the ED under supervision.

The Registrar works as part of the interdisciplinary team in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

After hours, the Registrar reports to the supervising ED Consultant or MOSS on duty.

The Registrar will assist with audit preparation and research as agreed with the Clinical Lead.

Hours and Salary
  • Average weekly hours: 45 - 49.9 hours.
  • Salary band: Category C.

About the Team/Service/Location

There is one Rural Hospital Consultant on duty daily, along with one Rural Hospital Registrar or House Officer (minimum PGY 2) in the inpatient ward or ED. A Consultant or MOSS is available 24/7 in Hawera ED.
