Southern Cross Hospital - Hamilton East, North Island

Southern Cross Hamilton Hospital is a well-equipped private surgical hospital based in central Hamilton, proudly providing a wide range of surgical specialties to the wider Waikato community for many years. Our hospital has eight fully equipped operating theatres, 43 inpatient beds (including four high-dependency unit beds), and a purpose-built Day Surgery Unit. We offer a range of specialties, including but not limited to, orthopaedics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, spine, and general surgery specialties.

Comfortable facilities, combined with the very latest in technology and on-site support services, enable independent credentialled medical practitioners to undertake a wide range of procedures. These include routine investigations to complex surgery, with their expertise supported by caring, professional nursing teams.

We are seeking compassionate and motivated Registered Nurses to join our Ward team at Southern Cross Hamilton Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a modern healthcare environment where clinical excellence, teamwork, and patient-centred care are at the heart of everything we do.

As a Registered Nurse on our Surgical Ward, you will deliver high-quality care to patients undergoing a range of surgical procedures, supporting them from admission through to discharge. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you'll undertake patient assessments, implement care plans, administer medications, monitor post-operative recovery, and respond to changes in patient condition. Your clinical expertise, critical thinking, and ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment will be essential to achieving excellent patient outcomes.

Beyond providing exceptional clinical care, you'll play an important role in supporting patients and their whānau, helping them feel informed, reassured, and empowered throughout their hospital stay. This is a rewarding role that offers exposure to a broad range of surgical specialties while providing opportunities for ongoing professional development and career growth.

We have a range of full-time and part-time opportunities available, with rostered shifts across Monday to Sunday.

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate
  • A minimum of two years' post-registration experience in an acute surgical ward or similar hospital setting
  • High Dependency Unit (HDU) experience is highly desirable
  • Surgical nursing experience and confidence caring for patients across a range of specialties
  • Strong clinical assessment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to effectively prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • A commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centred care
  • Previous experience in private healthcare is advantageous but not essential
  • Flexibility to work a rotating roster including AM, afternoon, and night shifts
  • Competitive Rewards: Attractive remuneration package, relocation allowance, and employee referral bonus scheme.
  • Health & Wellbeing: Funded health insurance, a comprehensive wellbeing programme, and generous Christmas/New Year breaks.
  • Flexibility & Growth: Flexible working arrangements and a Nursing Council of New Zealand-approved PDRP.
  • Perks & Community: Discounts from a range of partners and the opportunity to join our Employee Network.
