Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a proactive theatre nurse for a fixed-term, part-time (0.9 FTE) role at Wellington Regional Hospital. You will provide high-quality nursing care for elective and emergency surgeries, and actively participate in directing and delegating care within a multi-disciplinary team.

The role requires NZ RN registration and a current practising certificate. Experience in theatre is preferred, and a collaborative approach to patient-centred care is essential.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with current Practising Certificate in New Zealand.
  • Experience in surgical/operating theatre settings is preferred.
  • Able to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and adapt to a rotating roster.

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based nursing care for elective and emergency surgical patients.
  • Scrub and circulate within the operating theatre as required.
  • Collaborate with the theatre team to direct and delegate safe patient care.

We are seeking an energetic, positive and highly motivated nurse who has the ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team to provide elective and emergency surgical services. You will provide evidence-based nursing care, be an active member of the nursing team in directing and delegating care and role model professional, educational and preceptorship behaviours.

About the Team/Service/Location

There is a strong team focus in theatre and our nursing staff work together and closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide a person / wānau centred approach. The benefits of a team nursing model are considerable but include improved communication and coordination of care, enhanced support and teaching of clinical decision-making skills, increased patient care and satisfaction, and improved staff satisfaction and retention.

About you

You will be able to support and assess patients coming in for surgery and also scrub and circulate within the operating theatre of which experience is essential.

You must have:

  • Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse.
  • A current practising certificate
