Job summary

Pathways Whanganui is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Clinical Specialist Team in Whanganui. You will provide mental health care across assessment, planning, implementation and monitoring, while supporting crisis respite and housing services.

You will bring strong clinical judgement, cultural safety and a recovery-focused approach to work with tāngata whai ora and whānau, within a multidisciplinary team that values collaborative care.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid APC.
  • Experience in mental health and supporting people with complex mental and physical health needs.
  • Strong assessment, care planning and risk management skills.
  • Confidence providing 1:1 support, contributing to group interventions and working in a multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical guidance to Support Workers and manage your own caseload.
  • Contribute to group programmes and recovery-focused, culturally safe practice.
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal teams, external services and community partners as required.

Working in a holistic, community-based way, you'll support tāngata whai ora and their whānau to strengthen wellbeing, navigate challenges and connect with the right support at the right time. This is an opportunity to use your nursing skills across assessment, planning, implementation and monitoring, while also supporting our Crisis Respite Service and Housing and Recovery Service.

The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse with mental health experience and a comprehensive scope of practice to join our Clinical Specialist Team based in Whanganui. You'll work alongside our AOD Clinician, Social Worker and Occupational Therapist, bringing your nursing perspective to a skilled multidisciplinary team that supports people across the community. In this role, you'll provide clinical guidance to Support Workers, manage your own caseload, contribute to group programmes and support tāngata whai ora through recovery-focused, culturally safe practice.

  • Support people to identify and meet their individual health and social care needs through exceptional clinical practice
  • Complete robust risk assessments and contribute to safe, responsive support planning
  • Develop clinically appropriate goal plans in partnership with tāngata whai ora and their whānau
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal teams, external services and community partners as required
  • Focus on individual needs while providing culturally safe, strengths-based and recovery-focused practice

This is a full-time, Monday to Friday role (8:30am – 5pm), based at Park Place, just along the road from the beautiful awa in Whanganui.

About you

You'll be a passionate, experienced Registered Nurse who brings strong mental health knowledge, sound clinical judgement and a genuine commitment to improving wellbeing in the community. You'll be confident building trusted relationships with tāngata whai ora, whānau, colleagues and partner services, and you'll bring warmth, professionalism and adaptability to your practice. We're looking for someone who has:

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid APC
  • Experience working within mental health and supporting people with complex mental and physical health needs
  • Strong assessment, care planning and risk management skills
  • Confidence providing 1:1 support, contributing to group interventions and working in a multidisciplinary environment
  • A commitment to culturally safe, recovery-focused and trauma-informed practice

You uphold the mana of tāngata whai ora and work in a solution-focused, strengths-based, recovery-focused way. You bring strong communication, time-management and teamwork skills. You can build positive relationships with stakeholders and colleagues across services.
