Job summary

Evolution Healthcare in Auckland is seeking an experienced Theatre Nurse to join the Quay Park Specialist Day Hospital theatre team. You will plan, deliver, coordinate and evaluate perioperative patient care throughout the surgical journey.

The role involves scrubbing and circulating duties, preparing theatres, and ensuring safety before, during and after surgery. Located at Quay Park Surgical Centre in the Auckland CBD.

Qualifications

• Current registration with the Nursing Council of NZ and a Nurse practising certificate.
• Recent Theatre nursing experience.
• Minimum 2 years Operating Theatre experience.
• Experience in Oral Maxillofacial and Dental Surgery is a plus.
• Excellent attention to detail and patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care across all phases of the surgical journey.
• Prepare operating theatres and patients for surgery.
• Verify patient identity, consent, and surgical requirements.
• Maintain a sterile environment during procedures.
• Act as Scrub Nurse and/or Circulating Nurse as required.
• Support patients through recovery and handover to PACU.
• Ensure accurate documentation and communication with clinical teams.
• Promote patient safety, independence and quality outcomes.
• Participate in quality improvement and risk management initiatives.

At Quay Park, we are a specialised day surgical centre. Representing a group of private specialist Dental and Paediatric surgeons in the Auckland region, Quay Park has proudly served the Auckland community with surgical excellence for over 25 years.

About the role

Are you an experienced Registered Nurse with a passion for perioperative care? Join our dedicated Theatre team at Quay Park Specialist Day Hospital and play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care throughout the surgical journey.

As a Theatre Nurse, you will be responsible for the planning, delivery, coordination, and evaluation of patient care throughout the perioperative process. Working closely with Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Nursing colleagues, and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will ensure patients receive safe, high-quality care before, during, and after surgery.

This is a permanent position for 53 hours per fortnight (4 weekly roster rotation). Located at Quay Park Surgical Centre in the Auckland CBD.

You will be responsible for:

• Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care across all phases of the surgical journey.


• Prepare operating theatres and patients for surgery.


• Verify patient identity, consent, and surgical requirements.


• Maintain a safe and sterile environment during procedures.


• Perform duties as a Scrub Nurse and/or Circulating Nurse.


• Support patients through recovery and handover to PACU.


• Ensure accurate documentation and communication with clinical teams.


• Promote patient safety, independence, and quality outcomes.


• Participate in quality improvement and risk management initiatives.

About you

You will have:

• Current registration with the Nursing Council of NZ and a Nurse practising certificate.


• Recent Theatre nursing experience.


• Have at least 2 years previous Operating Theatre experience


• Experience in, Oral Maxillofacial and Dental Surgery. Urology, General Surgery, and minimally invasive Plastic surgery, would be an advantage


• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.


• Knowledge of professional, ethical, and legislative requirements relating to nursing practice.


• Excellent communication skills, particularly in high-pressure situations.


• A flexible and adaptable approach to changing priorities.
