Job summary

The Ministry of Education is seeking experienced school principals for two full-time Leadership Advisor roles. These fixed-term positions will support and coach other principals, addressing leadership challenges and implementing educational priorities across various schools in New Zealand. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in primary and/or secondary education.

Regional Leadership Advisors (2 Positions)

Full-time, Fixed-term positions starting from 28/01/2026 to 27/01/2027 (Secondment to leadership advisory service)

Location: North Island

About the Roles

Leadership advisor roles offer exciting opportunities for experienced school principals (current or recent) to support and coach other principals in addressing leadership challenges and implementing education priorities. Support is provided face-to-face and remotely, in one-on-one settings, clusters, seminars, presentations, or wananga.

The roles require principals with successful and extensive experience in primary and/or secondary education who can work across various schools.

Leadership advisors report to a Director of Education, are part of the Te Mahau leadership team, and collaborate with an integrated team to support schools and leaders. They are also supported nationally by a Chief Advisor and a network of leadership advisors across New Zealand.

These are 1–2 year secondment positions:

  • One role begins on 28 January 2026
  • The second role begins at the start of Term 2, 2026
