The Ministry of Education is inviting applications for the role of Regional Leadership Advisor in the South Island. This fixed-term position offers an opportunity for experienced school principals to provide essential support and guidance to fellow leaders, addressing the challenges in educational priorities. The role involves both face-to-face and remote engagements as part of a collaborative leadership team.

Leadership advisor roles are exciting and rewarding opportunities for experienced school principals (current or recent) to support and coach other principals to address the challenges they are facing as school leaders and the implementation of education priorities. Leadership advisor support is provided face to face and remotely, one to one, in clusters or via larger groups/ seminars/presentations/wānanga.
The regional leadership advisor roles need principals with successful and rich experience in the primary and/or secondary sectors who have the ability to work across a wide range of schools.
Leadership advisors report to a director of education, are in the Te Mahau leadership team and work alongside an integrated team to support schools and school leaders. You will also be supported nationally by a chief advisor and by the network of leadership advisors across New Zealand.

This is a 1–2 year secondment position and will commence on the 28January 2026.
