Overview

Ranger Visitor Centre (Seasonal, Part-Time)

Salary: $60,703 to $66,911, pro rata. Part time, fixed term or secondment role until the end of April 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure visitors have a safe and knowledgeable time in the outdoors.
  • Provide visitors with up-to-date information about recreational opportunities locally and throughout the country.
  • Inform visitors of local conservation projects, condition of tracks and huts and match their skills and experiences to appropriate opportunities available.
  • Promote and sell conservation merchandise.
  • Ensure branding opportunities are maximised and national campaigns are promoted e.g. Conservation Week, Volunteer week.
  • Ensure storytelling and interpretation are concise, truly functional, relevant and up to date.
  • Support hunters to be able to manage their permits and hunting experience.
  • Support our field teams with safety procedures.
Skills and experience
  • An enthusiasm and active interest in outdoor pursuits and conservation.
  • Experience and demonstrated competence in customer service, sales and retail.
  • Availability to work weekends and holidays.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to maintain high standards while working under pressure.
  • Confidence in delivering clear and positive safety messaging.
  • Competent computer skills and the ability to learn new systems.
  • Knowledge of conservation, recreation, and tourism opportunities in Rakiura and the wider Southland area.
