Job summary

KiwiRail is seeking a Trainee Track Worker to join our maintenance team. You will help carry out repairs, upgrades, and routine track work under supervision while gaining hands-on training in classroom sessions.

The role is outdoors, demanding physical fitness, and involves a 40-hour week on a rotating roster. Applicants should be ready to travel or stay overnight when required and commit to Zero Harm safety practices.

Qualifications

• Must be physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Strong teamwork and willingness to learn on the job.
• Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively to carry out maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to rail tracks.
• Receive on-the-job training and attend classroom sessions to build required skills.
• Operate tools and minor equipment under supervision as you progress.
• Outdoor role requiring physical fitness and willingness to get hands dirty in all weather.
• Hours of work are 40 per week, on a rotating roster (Monday to Sunday).
• Promote safety and raise concerns with proactive solutions.
