Job summary

ABB in Napier, New Zealand, seeks an experienced Quality Assurance professional to assure product and system quality across development and manufacturing. You will lead QA activities, ensure compliance with ISO/IEC and FAT procedures, and drive continuous improvement within a safety-minded, cost-effective environment.

Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and supplier quality teams to ensure robust QA across local and global operations.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in quality assurance, testing, quality control, or related function.
  • Strong understanding of ISO/IEC standards and FAT procedures.
  • Experience in electrical/power systems manufacturing.
  • Excellent communication to stakeholders.
  • Willingness to develop specialized knowledge in UPS/critical power.
  • English proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct QA activities to ensure products, processes, systems, software meet requirements for incoming material, manufacturing, testing, and FAT.
  • Support QA needs for production quality, customer quality, supplier quality, testing, and engineering in local and global factories.
  • Execute QA training and promote quality and integrity with a focus on results and customer orientation.
  • Collect, record, and evaluate data per ABB specs, customer norms, and standards with integrity.

Your Role And Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to assist local unit in developing the necessary capabilities to effectively assure quality of products and systems. Each day, you will ensure compliance with internal, customer, and industry requirements within a cost-effective and safe working environment. You will also showcase your expertise by participating in the product development and implementation of standards and test methods to ensure only compliant products, software, and services are released to the customer.

The work model for the role is: #onsite

This role is contributing to the Critical Power division in Napier, New Zealand. Main stakeholders are manufacturing, engineering, quality assurance, customer quality representatives and supplier quality teams.

You will be mainly accountable for:
  • Conducting quality assurance activities to ensure products, processes, systems, software and services meet specified requirements and customer expectations in incoming material, manufacturing, factory test labs, and final inspection including internal testing routine and Customer / Factory Acceptance Testing (F.A.T.) as applicable.
  • Supporting quality control/assurance needs and activities for production quality, customer quality, supplier quality, testing and validation, and engineering, as applicable in the local organization and sister factories globally.
  • Executing and assisting specific quality-related training, promoting a passion for quality and integrity in all actions, with a focus on result and customer orientation.
  • Collecting, recording, and evaluating data to be interpreted according to the internal ABB specifications, customer norms, material/supplier qualifications, and applicable national and/or global standards while maintaining a high level of integrity.
Qualifications For The Role
  • You have established skills and experience in quality control/assurance, testing, validation, and inspection methodologies with a strong understanding of electrical and power systems manufacturing environments.
  • You have 8+ years of experience in quality assurance, testing, quality control, or a related function, preferably in a manufacturing or electronics environment.
  • You possess advanced knowledge of quality management systems, testing standards (ISO, IEC), and Factory Acceptance Testing (F.A.T.) procedures and are highly proficient in data recording, analysis and interpretation tools.
  • You are passionate about attention to detail, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement with a demonstrated ability to communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • You demonstrate expertise in electrical systems, power electronics, or UPS/critical power applications or have a strong willingness to develop specialized knowledge in these areas.
  • You hold a qualification in electrical/electronic engineering, quality assurance or a related technical discipline, or have an equivalent combination of relevant experience and certifications (such as ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, Lean / Six Sigma Belts).
  • You are at ease communicating in English and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • You are flexible to work following extended production schedule, as necessary.
