Job summary

Hynds Limited is seeking a QA Technician to join our quality team in Christchurch. You’ll perform concrete pipe and precast product testing to national and international standards, with a hands-on role in QA checks, data reporting and NCR closure.

Ideal candidates have a QA or civil/science qualification, strong attention to detail, and the ability to lift up to 20 kg. Lab/testing experience in concrete or related fields is preferred, and you’ll receive ongoing training and development.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in QA, civil engineering, science or a related field.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to lift up to 20 kg and work safely.
• Good communication and team-player attitude.
• Experience in a lab or testing environment preferred; concrete/materials ideal.

Responsibilities

• Test product, load and hydrostatic water-tightness testing on concrete pipes to standards.
• Perform pre-pour and post-pour QA checks on precast concrete.
• Dimensional checks on pipes and reinforcement cages; repair products as needed.
• Raise and close out Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
• Support concrete trials, sample prep, and testing of sand, aggregates and additives.
• Keep lab and test equipment calibrated and audit-ready.
• Compile and report QA data and flag out-of-tolerance results.
• Provide relief cover across Batcher, Gatekeeper, Precast, Pipe and Lab roles.

Job description

Every concrete pipe and precast product that leaves our site has to be right — strong, watertight, and built to standard. Making sure it measures up is the job of our quality team, and we're looking for a QA Technician to join them.

You might already be testing concrete or working in a materials lab. Or you might be a science or engineering graduate, or someone with a sharp eye for detail and a quality mindset from another industry, ready to learn the concrete side with us. Either way, if you enjoy practical, hands-on work where accuracy matters, we'd like to hear from you — we'll teach you what you don't already know.

What you'll be doing

• Product, load and water-tightness (hydrostatic) testing on concrete pipes, to national and international standards
• Pre-pour and post-pour QA checks on precast concrete — mould dimensions, reinforcement, finish and marking
• Dimensional checks on pipes and reinforcement cages, and repairing products as needed
• Raising and closing out Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when products don't meet standard
• Supporting concrete trials, sample prep, and testing of sand, aggregates and additives
• Keeping the lab and test equipment clean, calibrated and audit-ready
• Compiling and reporting QA data, and flagging out-of-tolerance results
• Providing relief cover across Batcher, Gatekeeper, Precast, Pipe and Lab roles as needed

What you'll need

• A tertiary qualification in QA, civil engineering, science or a related field
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• A practical, hands-on approach, and the ability to safely lift up to 20kg
• Good communication and a genuine team-player attitude
• Computer literacy, including MS Excel
• Experience in a lab or testing environment — concrete or materials ideal, but transferable skills welcome
