Job description
Overview

Fairground is a B Corp Certified social enterprise CA firm who believes in a world where one day, purpose-driven business is considered business as usual. We’re all about mixing good business with social impact, and are hugely passionate about supporting social enterprises, impact-led businesses, startups and NFPs with a range of advisory and tax compliance services. We have been operating in this space for over 13 years based out of Ōtautahi / Christchurch and Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington.

For a small firm we pack a big punch. We understand how good it feels to have efficient systems, the ability to adapt quickly and be agile in our approach to our client’s businesses. We encourage new ideas, new technologies, and everyone to bring their own unique perspective to the team.

We believe we’re more than just your typical accounting firm. Some of our core values and examples which help shape our kaupapa are:

Care & Respect

  • We care for our clients and the reasons why they’re in business - we connect to the heart of why they do what they do.

  • Team wellbeing is prioritised through a wellbeing allowance, extended leave and hybrid working options

  • We are Mental Health First Aid trained, in order to support our clients and each other

  • We all have full trust and autonomy over our own workload

Togetherness & Belonging

  • Everyone is encouraged to bring their unique and genuine selves to work

  • Each person’s individuality contributes towards our combined strength

  • We escape the office every year for a team retreat

  • We’re on a journey of incorporating Te Ao Māori into our workplace

Leadership

  • We’ve been utilising cloud-based systems and online tools (long before it was cool) and have never done timesheets

  • Always seeking out new ways to improve and have a big focus on training and development

  • We lead by example by measuring our own carbon emissions, implementing a social procurement process and becoming B Corp certified

We are looking for a socially conscious person to join our team based in Ōtautahi or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (where our offices are). Ideally we’re looking for a full time role, however may consider part time hours of 30 hours or above.

The Mahi - Key Responsibilities
  • Draft review and preparation of SPFR financial statements, NFP performance reports and income tax returns

  • Preparation of GST and AIM returns

  • Meeting with clients and attending to general tax and business advisory queries

  • Training team members on the annual accounts and tax return process

  • Managing and developing genuine client relationships

  • Preparing cash flow reports, budgets and management reports

  • Working alongside Directors with ad hoc value added projects

  • To bring yourself and ideas into this role, and be a part of a bigger team

In your application we’d love you to demonstrate
  • Your genuine passion for impact within your own life, and for ventures that have a social or environmental impact at the heart of what they do

  • Experience working in a CA environment as an intermediate BAS accountant or above

  • Interpersonal skills for interacting with clients and the team

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an eye for detail

  • Proactivity, being well organised and managing your time well

  • Ability to work as part of a physical team, and part of a wider virtual team

  • Motivated to lifelong learning and ongoing development

  • Experience and knowledge of the Xero ecosystem, and other cloud-based tools

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We strongly welcome applicants to express their authentic self through their application and encourage diversity, equity and inclusion. Accordingly we’ve actively designed our recruitment process to try and address any unconscious bias. Some examples of this include;

  • All applications are compiled independently of the Directors

  • Names and demographic information are anonymised

  • Applicants are scored based on facts in their cover letter and CV

  • The scorecard is then reviewed by both Directors

Initial interviews are conducted via video call, however we welcome your input on how we might best set up an interview environment that works best for you.
