Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Wellington Central is seeking a motivated Purchasing Officer to join our PSC&HTM team. You will provide purchasing support to ensure timely procurement of supplies, services and equipment for healthcare operations, processing requisitions and managing purchase orders.

You will build relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders, monitor orders, maintain records and comply with purchasing procedures.

Qualifications

• Two years' experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain.
• Experience in purchasing/procurement operations within a large organisation.
• Strong understanding of procurement systems and ordering processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive purchasing support and ensure timely procurement of supplies, services and equipment.
• Process catalogue and non-catalogue requisitions and manage purchase orders.
• Monitor order fulfilment and maintain purchasing records to ensure supply continuity.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Purchasing Officer to join our Procurement, Supply Chain and Health Technology Management (PSC&HTM) team in the Central Region.

In this role, you will provide comprehensive purchasing support services, ensuring the timely procurement and delivery of supplies, services and equipment required to support healthcare operations. You will work closely with departments across the organisation to process catalogue and non-catalogue requisitions, maintain purchasing records, manage purchase orders, and proactively monitor order fulfilment to ensure supply continuity.

You will also build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders, helping to ensure procurement activities align with Health New Zealand's purchasing procedures and supply chain protocols. About the Team / Service / Location

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager Central Region, you will be part of a collaborative supply chain team focused on delivering efficient and effective procurement services. You will work closely with finance, logistics, inventory teams, clinical services, suppliers and procurement partners to ensure healthcare services have access to the products and resources they need.

About You

You are a proactive and organised procurement professional who enjoys building relationships, managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality customer service.

You will bring:

• At least two years' experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or a related role.
• Experience working in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain operations within a large organisation.
• A strong understanding of procurement systems and catalogue and non-catalogue ordering processes.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder relationship management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate records and compliance standards.
• The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.

Experience within the health sector, public sector procurement, ERP systems, or supply chain management environments will be advantageous. Knowledge of Health New Zealand purchasing procedures and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and health equity principles are highly valued.
