Job summary

Parliamentary Service in Wellington, New Zealand, is seeking two Payroll Officers (full-time and part-time) on fixed-term contracts to June 2027. You will provide accurate, timely payroll services across Parliament and support managers and MPs in a complex public sector environment.

You will process fortnightly payroll, maintain records, handle leave, respond to queries with confidentiality, and support audits, working with HR and Finance.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in payroll or personnel operations.
• Experience using computerised payroll systems.
• Knowledge of NZ payroll legislation (Holidays Act, ERA, KiwiSaver).
• Strong accuracy and ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Process fortnightly payroll accurately and on time.
• Maintain and update employee payroll records.
• Manage leave processing and entitlements.
• Respond to payroll queries with high service and confidentiality.
• Prepare and submit payroll returns to external agencies (IRD, WINZ).
• Produce and check payroll reports, ensuring accuracy.
• Support audit and compliance with documentation.
