Job summary

South Taranaki District Council is seeking a proactive Civil Engineer to support the delivery of its water, wastewater and stormwater capital works programme. You will work with the Water Services Projects Manager and Infrastructure Services team to move projects from scoping through procurement, construction, reporting and completion.

You will bring a Civil Engineering degree, experience in civil or water infrastructure, and strong skills in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, with a proven ability to balance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with recognition by Engineering New Zealand.
  • Experience in civil or water infrastructure design and delivery.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D required.
  • Clear communicator able to work with multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manage water, wastewater and stormwater capital projects.
  • Prepare engineering designs, drawings, and specifications using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Coordinate consultants, contractors and service providers.
  • Monitor budgets, programmes, risk, quality and health and safety.
  • Review and define project scopes and objectives.
  • Produce reporting as required.
  • Develop project solutions and budgets for joint ventures.

About the Role

The purpose of the position is to support the successful delivery of Council's water, wastewater and stormwater capital works programme. Working closely with the Water Services Projects Manager and wider Infrastructure Services team, you will help take projects from initial scoping and design through to procurement, construction, reporting and completion.

The South Taranaki District Council is seeking a proactive and solutions-focused engineer who enjoys working across the full project lifecycle. You will be confident managing competing priorities, building strong relationships with internal teams, consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies and community stakeholders, and keeping projects moving from concept through to completion. You will bring sound engineering judgement and the ability to balance technical, financial, safety and community considerations in a local government environment.

What You'll Do:
  • Manage water, wastewater and stormwater capital projects.
  • Prepare engineering designs, drawings, specifications and supporting documentation using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Coordinate consultants, contractors and service providers.
  • Monitor and report on project budgets, programmes risk, quality and health and safety.
  • Review, agree and define project scopes and objectives.
  • Produce reporting as required.
  • Develop project solutions, systems and processes for the Council. Resource budgets from other organisations when working on joint ventures.
About You

You will have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, recognised by Engineering New Zealand, along with relevant experience in civil or water infrastructure design and delivery. You will be confident using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and will bring practical knowledge of civil engineering standards, codes of practice, construction methodologies, contract supervision and health and safety requirements.

You will also be a clear communicator who can work effectively with a wide range of people, including internal teams, consultants, contractors, regulators, iwi, landowners and community stakeholders. You will be organised, analytical and detail-focused, with the ability to solve technical problems, manage competing priorities and deliver quality outcomes within agreed timeframes and budgets.

In addition, you will be adaptable, have a good grasp of modern technology such as computers and instrumentation and be capable of dealing with a wide variety of operating or processing systems. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required and a full or restricted clean valid driver's license is essential for this role.

The salary range for this position is between $98,730pa and $109,700pa and the appointed starting level will be dependent on skills and experience and will be discussed during interviews with shortlisted candidates.
