Te Tūranga - The Role

Tait Communications is seeking a highly skilled product development technical Project Manager to lead and deliver excellence across a diverse portfolio of electronic hardware and software communication product development projects. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge products that make a real difference in communities worldwide.

As a product development technical Project Manager, you will oversee the full lifecycle of product development, from specification through to manufacturing and market release. You will project manage hardware-software integrated product development, ensuring seamless collaboration between embedded software, firmware, mechanical and electronic hardware. You will coordinate product development partnerships, including working with teams on engineering specifications, prototype validation, regulatory compliance, mass production and product launch coordination. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware and software architects, product managers, supply chain, production, sales, and marketing teams, as well as global engineering and manufacturing partners.

This role requires strong technical expertise and project management skills to balance timelines, budgets, and engineering trade-offs while ensuring high-quality product delivery.

The duties of the role will include:

  • Lead and execute electronic product development projects, ensuring successful integration of hardware and software from design to manufacturing and market release.
  • Responsible for coordinating product development teams and overseeing full-cycle design-to-manufacture projects.
  • Ensure technical feasibility, design validation, and regulatory compliance by working closely with development and production teams.
  • Provide hands-on project governance, ensuring rigorous quality control, proactive risk management, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Drive innovation and efficiency by challenging conventional approaches, optimizing development cycles, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products.
  • Manage and oversee the full lifecycle of product and solution development projects, from inception to production, while maintaining budgetary constraints.
  • Develop and implement appropriate project management structures, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and provide regular updates on project progress, risks, and KPIs
  • Lead and coach project teams, contributing to a center of excellence for project coordination and continuous improvement.

Ō pūkenga - About You

To be successful in this role, you will have relevant tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience in engineering or technology, along with proven expertise in project management for electronic product development.

You will bring:

  • A degree in Engineering or Technology with relevant experience.
  • Project management or system engineering certification (e.g., PMI, Prince2.
  • 5+ years of experience as a technical Project Manager, leading hardware-software integrated product development projects.
  • Extensive experience in coordinating product development teams and managing full-cycle design-to-manufacture projects (this is crucial for this role).
  • Expertise in product development processes for scalable, manufacturable electronic hardware and embedded software products, including design validation, regulatory compliance, and mass production.
  • Proficiency with project management tools such as MSProject, Jira, etc.
  • Commercial acumen and financial management skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and engage cross-functional teams.

This role is NOT focused on ICT or enterprise software project management - we are looking for expertise in the project management of technical development and manufacturing of electronic products.
