Job summary

Metlen Energy & Metals Plc is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to join our site-based team responsible for delivering electrical works on large-scale solar farm projects. You will report to the Electrical Supervisor and support safe, compliant delivery across PV installations, inverter systems, and high/medium voltage reticulation at Edgecumbe.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of solar technologies, design principles, and project management methodologies.
  • Proven electrical engineering capability to review and assess designs and recommend design adjustments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards for solar projects.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, delivering results.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements (Australian and/or New Zealand) and industry best practices for solar farms.
  • Strong understanding of SCADA comms and network systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site leadership for electrical works including PV string installation, DC cabling, inverters, MV/LV reticulation, earthing, HV substations, and balance-of-plant systems.
  • Review and interpret electrical drawings and specifications to support construction activities.
  • Assist with resolving electrical construction issues and design clarifications with the design and project engineering teams.
  • Coordinate daily electrical site activities with supervisors, subcontractors and other disciplines to ensure safe execution.
  • Monitor site progress and report constraints, risks or delays to site management.
  • Manage variations, claims and cost impacts, and provide recommendations for approval.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager and Construction team to identify cost risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct site inspections and quality checks to verify electrical works meet specifications and standards.
  • Support ITPs, testing records, and quality documentation for electrical scopes.
  • Ensure electrical works comply with applicable codes and regulatory requirements for solar farms.
  • Promote health and safety requirements, participate in toolbox talks, safety walks and incident investigations.
  • Maintain daily reports, progress updates, test results and non-conformance reports.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Project Engineer to join our team. Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, you will work as part of a site-based team responsible for supporting the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of electrical works on Metlen’s large scale solar farm projects.

As an Electrical Project Engineer your key responsibilities will include:

Site Engineering & Construction Support
  • Provide on-site engineering leadership for electrical works including PV string installation, DC cabling, inverters, MV/LV reticulation, earthing, HV substation, and balance-of-plant electrical systems.
  • Review and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, specifications, and technical documentation to support construction activities.
  • Assist with resolving electrical construction issues, technical queries, and design clarifications in coordination with the design and project engineering teams.
Site Coordination & Contractor Management
  • Assist the Site Supervisor/Superintendent to coordinate daily electrical site activities with supervisors, subcontractors, and other disciplines to ensure safe and efficient execution of works.
  • Support planning and sequencing of electrical works in line with the construction programme, milestone requirements and interfaces with civil and mechanical scopes.
  • Monitor site progress and report constraints, risks, or delays to site management.
  • Assist the Supervisor with ensuring project budgets related to engineering electrical scope are in line with the approved project cost plan.
  • Review, assess, and support the management of variations, claims, and change events, including preparation of cost impacts and recommendations for approval.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager, and Construction team to identify cost risks, opportunities, and mitigation strategies.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Conduct site inspections and quality checks to verify electrical works are completed in accordance with specifications, approved methodologies, and relevant standards.
  • Support Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), hold points, testing records, and quality documentation for electrical scopes.
  • Ensure electrical works comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to solar farm construction.
Health, Safety & Environment
  • Actively promote and comply with site health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety walks, and incident investigations as required.
  • Ensure electrical works are carried out in a safe manner, including isolation, testing, and energisation activities.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate site records including daily reports, progress updates, test results, and non-conformance reports.
  • Provide regular progress and technical updates to Management.
