Description
This leading New Zealand aquaculture business, based in the upper South Island, is embarking on a major transformation project driven by significant projected growth and ageing plant, to a new greenfield or brownfield location. As part of this exciting period of change, the business is seeking to appoint a project director to lead the programme and in the longer term establish a robust Project Management Office (PMO) framework.
The Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to take full ownership of a strategic, business-critical project from the ground up. Reporting at the highest levels of the organisation, and working closely with the executive leadership team, you’ll provide end-to-end project leadership—managing planning, design, budgeting, stakeholder engagement, procurement, and delivery.
You’ll also be responsible for designing and embedding a fit-for-purpose PMO model to support future project delivery, governance, and strategic alignment as the company continues to grow and develop.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the greenfield/brownfields site project, from strategy through to delivery and commissioning.
- Manage cross-functional stakeholder groups and external vendors to ensure alignment with project goals.
- Develop and implement a PMO to support future growth and operational excellence.
- Deliver corporate-level reporting and updates in a listed business environment.
- Navigate commercial negotiations, contractual frameworks, and regulatory compliance.
About You
You’ll bring a proven background in project leadership. Ideally within a manufacturing or closely aligned sector and experience in large-scale capital works or site transitions. You’ll be confident operating in a complex stakeholder environment, comfortable in front of a board, and able to report to a corporate governance standard. Your interpersonal style will be engaging and outcome-focused—you know how to bring people together, influence across all levels, and drive momentum. Negotiation comes naturally to you, and you’re motivated by building things that last—whether that’s infrastructure or process.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated project management experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
- Exposure to listed business governance, reporting and stakeholder engagement
- Strong commercial and negotiation capability
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership style
- Track record of delivering complex, large-scale projects
