Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Here’s your shot to join the engine room of Newstalk ZB, producing two of our biggest sports shows - Sportstalk and All Sport Breakfast with D’Arcy Waldegrave.

You’ll be right at the heart of the action, booking big-name guests, shaping content, driving social media, and helping deliver sharp, fast-paced radio. It’s high-energy, high-reward, and the perfect launch pad if you’re hungry to kick off or accelerate your career in media.

HOW YOU’LL DO IT:

  • Lead the daily content setup for both shows, pitching angles, briefing hosts, and lining up interviews.
  • Stay across the news cycle 24/7, you’ll know what’s breaking before it breaks.
  • Run the studio during live broadcasts and keep things slick behind the scenes.
  • Produce and edit sports podcasts.
  • Create killer digital and social content to keep our shows buzzing beyond the airwaves.
  • Jump in to support weekday producing when needed, no two days are the same.

ABOUT YOU

You’re ambitious, curious, and sport runs through your veins. You’ve had a taste of newsroom life and you’re ready to step it up.

  • You’ve got a relevant qualification.
  • You’ve got a strong interest in journalism and some experience in a newsroom or content-producing environment.
  • You’re confident writing across a range of topics, with good editorial judgment and the ability to spot a strong angle or breaking story.
  • You’re comfortable working across multiple platforms, from crafting engaging social media posts to supporting digital content and podcast production.
  • You’re organised, adaptable, and can juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Most importantly, you’re eager to learn, contribute ideas, and grow your career as part of a supportive and experienced team.

WHAT’S ON OFFER:

  • A front-row seat at NZ’s #1 talk network.
  • Hands-on experience with live radio, podcasting and digital media.
  • Learn from some of the best in the business — D’Arcy, Piney, and the ZB crew.
  • A fast-paced, fun, and supportive newsroom that rewards hustle and initiative.
  • Real opportunities to grow within NZME, across radio, news, and digital.

We offer the chance to work with the best in the business on award-winning brands and titles in an environment where we foster diversity and inclusion. At NZME our culture is second to none, where innovation and fun is the norm, and you’re encouraged to bring your whole self to work.

Your workplace will be in central Auckland in a modern well-equipped office that boasts radio studios, newsroom hubs, multiple breakout areas and our popular iHeart Lounge that hosts a variety of internal events. You’ll have access to a range of discounted products and services, development opportunities and be a key member of a high performing team!

Ready to dive into the action? Apply now and bring the noise.

Applications close: Friday 11th July 2025

All applicants will be asked about their working rights in New Zealand. E.g., Citizen, resident, visa, no visa etc.
