Job summary

Service Foods Ltd, Wellington, seeks two night Produce Assistants for a full-time fixed-term role until 26 February 2027. You will pick, weigh, and pack fresh produce to customer orders in a temperature-controlled warehouse.

Ideal candidates have fresh produce or warehouse experience, are comfortable with heavy lifting up to 20 kg, and hold reliable transport. NZ residency or valid work visa required; shift is weekends to midweek, 8:00 pm–5:00 am.

Job description

Our Wellington Fresh Produce Team is seeking two night Produce Assistants to join the team on a full-time basis for 4 months to cover the busy period.

As part of a dynamic group, you will help pick, prepare and pack fresh vegetables and fruits according to customer orders.

Position snapshot:

• Immediate start
• Location: William Durant Drive, Trentham, Wellington
• full-time role, fixed term until 26/02/2027
• Roster: Saturday to Wednesday and Monday to Friday, 08:00 pm to 05:00 am

The Job:

In this role, you will work with fresh produce (fruits and vegetables), pulling, weighing, and packing supplies, and assisting with stocking and other warehouse duties. Your main tasks will include:

• Picking, weighing and packing orders
• Cleaning, washing, and processing fresh produce
• Monitoring product quality before packaging by closely inspecting
• Operating machines to peel, core, slice, and dice fruits and vegetables
• Handling and restocking inventory
• Receiving and storing products
• Performing some heavy lifting (up to 20 kg)
• Monitoring product quality by inspecting items before packaging
• Cleaning work areas and maintaining general housekeeping
• Strictly adhering to food safety standards and health and safety protocols

The Person:

We are looking for someone who can work independently to achieve results. Our Produce department operates in a temperature-controlled environment, so you should be comfortable in a cold setting and physically fit for some heavy lifting.

Ideal Candidate will have:

• Relevant experience in the fresh produce industry or warehousing/pick pack roles
• Previous work in a chiller and/or depot environment
• Reliable transport and flexibility with hours
• A confident, flexible attitude with attention to detail
• Prior NZ experience and knowledge of basic food ingredients
• Be physically fit and capable of heavy lifting
• Possess intermediate literacy and numeracy skills
• Current forklift license beneficial
• Be hardworking, reliable, and demonstrate good work ethics
• Have a strong understanding of health and safety requirements
• Have reliable transport and the ability to attend shifts as and when required
