Job summary

Southern Water is seeking a Process Technician – Mechanic to maintain and repair wastewater treatment works, sludge centres, and pumping stations across multiple sites in the Battle/Hastings/Rye area. You will ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety standards while supporting continuous improvement.

The role requires Level 3 NVQ Mechanical qualification, a Full UK driving licence, and the ability to work under pressure. Standby cover on a 1-in-7 rota may be required.

Qualifications

• Level 3 NVQ Mechanical qualification with certificates.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
• Desirable: Experience in water industry.
• Desirable: Strong understanding of pumping station operation and wastewater treatment process.
• Desirable: Knowledge of health and safety legislation.

Responsibilities

• Undertake reactive and planned maintenance of plant and equipment such as pumps motors and gear boxes.
• Install new plant and equipment as required.
• Respond to alarms and fault-find issues, fixing or escalating as needed.
• Carry out inspection and testing on mechanical equipment following company procedures.
• Provide technical expertise to internal and external contractors.
• Update company systems and databases accurately and promptly.
• Potential to Participate in standby cover on a 1-in-7 rota basis if/When required.

Process Technician - Mechanic

Location: Battle/Hastings/Rye area - you will also need to be willing to travel across multiple sites and have a current full driving licence.

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 38 hours

Salary: Base pay ranges £38,247.41 - £45,896.13 per annum (depending on skills and experience)

About the role
