Overview

What you will be doing The Strategic Planning team plays a central role in shaping the future of Auckland Airport and articulating the business’ 30-year vision. It oversees Auckland Airport’s Master Plan and provides strategic advice in relation to transportation and sustainability, to enable the growth of the Airport and to maintain a social licence to operate. The team also plays a key role in developing and advocating Auckland Airport’s position within regulatory and legislative policy contexts at a local and central government level. Our team is reviewing the Surface Access Strategy which sets the direction for accommodating travel across the precinct. In this role you will lead specific initiatives to ensure our business goals, contractual and social licence responsibilities continue to remain ‘fit for future’. The role has a pan-business responsibility and requires extensive engagement across the business and with key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Lead the development of, maintain and monitor Auckland Airport’s mode shift plan, including implementation of initiatives to realise modal shift away from “drive-alone” vehicles.
  • Maintain, monitor and review as required Auckland Airport’s Surface Access Strategy.
  • Steward and update transport policy and strategy documents for Auckland Airport’s precinct.
  • Lead effective and constructive advocacy for Auckland Airport in national and regional transport policy and in third-party proposals.
  • Develop and maintain relevant transport models, data sets and systems that inform long term planning of transport infrastructure.
  • Support in developing a sustainable funding model for infrastructure and services.
  • Manage specific projects as required that support the planning and development of the Airport’s surface access network.
  • Develop and update the multi-modal network plan, including identifying infrastructure needs.
  • Lead/ collaborate in preparing business cases to support capital investment in surface access.
Qualifications and experience

To ensure your success in this role, you will need:

  • 10+ years’ experience in transport planning, transport policy or similar
  • A tertiary qualification in Transport Planning, Engineering or other relevant discipline is essential
  • A proven ability to influence and negotiate through effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong customer focus, and a concern for excellence and quality
  • A proven track record of sound strategic judgement and ability to cope with business complexity
  • Ability to plan for multi-modal networks, including experience planning for people walking, bicycling, experience planning for freight and goods delivery, and/or emerging mobility options
  • Strong writer capable of producing written materials
