Job summary

WSP Auckland is seeking a Principal Transport Engineer to provide consultancy services in transport engineering and planning, focusing on analysis, reporting, design, and supervision. You will lead teams across projects to ensure timely, on-budget delivery and high-quality outcomes.

The role requires 8+ years in transportation infrastructure, a relevant degree, and CPEng or equivalent, with experience in business development and leading projects within a global firm.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional experience in transportation infrastructure, transport engineering and planning.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification to the discipline.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or equivalent.
  • Minimum of WSP PMAF Level 2 accreditation or equivalent; 5+ years leading projects in the discipline.
  • Experience developing new business to increase revenue and expand market penetration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultancy services to clients in transport engineering and planning focused on analysis, reporting, design and supervision.
  • Lead project teams to deliver on time, within budget and to high quality standards.
  • Provide expert engineering support to project managers and clients for cost efficiency and quality.
  • Lead or contribute as Project Manager/Technical Lead and ensure procedures are followed.
  • Engage in business development activities with clients under client relationship managers.

Principal Transport Engineer

  • Provide consultancy services to clients in the areas of transport engineering and planning with a focus on analysis, reporting, design and supervision.
  • Be an active member of the team, contributing to the success of the Transport Infrastructure sub-sector in meeting its business plan.
  • Provide highly expert engineering support to the team in the provision of professional services to project managers and clients to ensure quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness of those services.
  • Provide leadership and/or inputs on project teams (Project Manager / Technical Lead as appropriate), ensuring WSP Project Management procedures are followed.
  • Promote best practice and technical excellence by applying sound technical review practices and taking a leading role in delivery of key or strategic projects
  • Lead transport engineering on projects, ensuring appropriate technical reviews, verifications and audits are completed according to WSP procedures
  • Lead and contribute to project teams to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget and to the required quality. Contribute to ensuring projects achieve the planned profit.
  • Undertake planning of and correctly scope out projects, have appropriate inputs and outputs and verification activities.
  • Undertake administrative tasks associated with assigned projects including reporting on job progress and budget.
  • Undertake verification activities and technical reviews of projects and tasks.
  • Ensure that designs, drawings, strategy development and recommendations will achieve the desired outcomes and that all reports and other outputs are correctly prepared and monitored.
  • Prepare fee estimates and negotiation of fees for services with clients, ensuring that projects can operate on a profitable basis.
  • Engage in business development activities, including meetings and events with clients, under the leadership of company client relationship managers.
  • Liaise with and meet staff from similar WSP transportation teams across New Zealand and across the WSP company globally with a view to supporting them on project work and business development where applicable.


About you:

  • 8+ years professional experience within the field of transportation infrastructure, transport engineering and planning.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification to the Discipline
  • Chartered Professional Engineering (CPEng) status or equivalent
  • Minimum of WSP PMAF Level 2 accreditation or equivalent Minimum of 5 years of professional experience leading projects in the Discipline
  • Experience in developing new business by identifying and capitalising on opportunities to increase revenue and/or profit and expand market penetration
