Job summary

WSP is seeking a Principal Fluvial Geomorphologist to conduct geomorphic and flood risk assessments and provide design support within the Rural Water team. The role involves mentoring, technical leadership, and serving as a subject matter expert across the business.

Located in Palmerston North, Hamilton or Christchurch, you will leverage GIS, numerical modelling and fieldwork to deliver sustainable landscape and catchment solutions for diverse projects across New Zealand.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification in Physical Geography, Geomorphology, Hydraulic Engineering, Engineering geology, Hydrology or related.
• 10–15 years' experience in applied geomorphic assessment and/or design.
• Proficiency in hydraulic and/or landscape evolution modelling software.
• Demonstrates strong skills in fieldwork.
• Current, clean drivers license.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geomorphic and flood risk assessments and provide design support.
• Mentor within the Rural Water team and act as a subject matter expert across the business.
• Lead delivery of natural resource solutions with a focus on fluvial morphodynamics.
• Apply GIS and numerical modelling to support project outcomes.
• Collaborate with multiple offices and clients within NZ.

Principal Fluvial Geomorphologist

Our Primary Industries group has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Fluvial Geomorphologist to conduct geomorphic and flood risk assessments and provide design support. You will provide sound technical advice and project leadership within Primary Industries and the wider WSP business. At the principal level, you will mentor within the team and serve as a subject matter expert and technical reviewer across the business.

This role is focused on fluvial morphodynamics. Your technical proficiency in field and desktop work will drive delivery of natural resource solutions. Forming part of the Rural Water team, you'll also have a significant focus on sustainable, working landscapes and rural catchments. You will have excellent GIS and communication skills as well as a solid foundation in numerical modelling, geoanalytics and/or hydraulic/geomorphic design.

You may be located in the Palmerston North, Hamilton or Christchurch offices.

About you:

• Postgraduate qualification with specialization in Physical Geography, Geomorphology, Hydraulic Engineering, Engineering geology, Hydrology or related.
