Job summary

Stats NZ seeks a Principal Analyst to lead data knowledge and design within the Integrated Statistical Data System (ISDS). Based in NZ, the role champions coherent methods, standards, and data lifecycle governance across multiple domains, with a focus on integrating data between people and places.

The ideal candidate brings a strong statistical production background, deep methodology knowledge, and a track record of turning design into ongoing operational processes, coaching staff, and promoting

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in a related field (e.g., Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics)
• Ability to apply conceptual and creative thinking to design methods and standards across the data lifecycle
• Strong collaboration and mentoring skills to grow staff and teams
• Experience promoting integrated design thinking and standardisation in data systems
• Understanding of legal, privacy and ethical considerations in data governance

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance across Stats NZ and the data ecosystem
• Lead development and embedding of coherent methods and standards in the ISDS
• Mentor and coach staff within the branch leadership team
• Promote Te Tiriti o Waitangi understanding and application in practice
• Present research and designs to diverse audiences including senior management
