Job summary

Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology invites applicants for a Practicum Advisor within the Nursing team. You will liaise with primary health care, mental health and community providers, coordinating placements and ensuring nursing students meet NCNZ standards while upholding bicultural practice.

You will mentor ākonga and SNEs, build networks with providers, and lead continuous improvements in placement processes, all while fostering inclusive learning environments and safeguarding student success.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with a minimum of 5 years post-registration experience and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
• Working towards a Master's degree in nursing (or a related discipline). An Adult Teaching certificate is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of NCNZ Standards of Competence (2024) and experience in clinical practice assessment.
• Commitment to biculturalism and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in nursing practice.
• Current, clean driver's license, good computer literacy, and proven leadership and relationship management skills.

Are you an experienced Registered Nurse passionate about shaping the future of healthcare?

We are looking for a Practicum Advisor to join our Nursing team and champion the clinical learning journey for our ākonga (students). In this pivotal role, you will be the vital link between Toi Ohomai and the wider healthcare community - specifically within primary health care, mental health, and community service providers across the rohe.

You won't just be coordinating schedules; you will be actively growing our network of placement providers, fostering safe, inclusive learning environments, and ensuring our nursing graduates are highly capable, culturally responsive, and ready to make a difference.

Ngā mahi / What You’ll Do

• Connect & Grow: Proactively identify and establish new clinical placement opportunities, building strong, trusting relationships with primary and community healthcare providers.
• Coordinate: Facilitate high-quality clinical placements that seamlessly align with nursing curricula and NCNZ standards, ensuring positive and equitable outcomes for ākonga.
• Guide & Mentor: Provide professional guidance to ākonga, student nurse educators (SNEs), and provider staff to build confidence and capability in clinical settings. (You may also step in as an SNE when required).
• Innovate: Drive continuous improvement in our clinical placement systems, developing tools and processes that enhance the quality and sustainability of our placements.
• Uphold Te Tiriti: Embed bicultural practice into your everyday mahi, actively removing barriers to participation and championing Māori success in vocational education.
• Experience: Registered Nurse with a minimum of 5 years post-registration experience and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
• Education: Working towards a Master's degree in nursing (or a related discipline). An Adult Teaching certificate is highly desirable.
• Knowledge: Deep understanding of the NCNZ Standards of Competence (2024) and experience in clinical practice assessment.
• Cultural Competence: A genuine commitment to biculturalism and a strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi's relevance to nursing practice.
• Practicalities: A current, clean driver's license, strong computer literacy, and proven leadership and relationship management skills.
