Job description
Overview

As New Zealand's System Operator at the heart of the electricity sector, we operate the power system and connect the generators of electricity with electricity retailers through the wholesale electricity market. We manage the flow of electricity across Transpower's high-voltage transmission network to local lines companies and large industrial customers. A key part of our role is to ensure that electricity supply and demand are in balance at all times, and to manage voltage and frequency on the grid to ensure it remains stable, enabling New Zealanders to access the electricity they need, every second of every day.

About The Team

Operations Process & Technology Improvement (OPTI) is a key function in the Operations Division, responsible for identifying capability requirements to support future needs and providing a roadmap and investment plan for delivering capability uplift and business outcomes. The team manages, delivers, and governs the Operations investment plan, ensuring value for money while achieving strategic objectives. OPTI drives efficiencies by proactively identifying and implementing technology and process improvements to meet evolving Operations needs and enabling operations through reliable tools, training, and support.

This role is part of a jointly important Work Programme in the Joint Work Programme with the Electricity Authority and continuous improvement initiatives for Transpower Operations. You will work alongside the Portfolio (Investment) Delivery Manager and stakeholders at all levels, providing analytical and support services, and direct support to collaborative Project Managers who may mentor you. You will enjoy a varied and intellectually stimulating workload.

Responsibilities
  • Support a portfolio of projects and manage engagements with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver programme reporting, monitoring, and control, including portfolio finances.
  • Provide scheduling, maintenance, and monitoring of the full work programme and other programme-level registers.
  • Carry out programme/project administration, including organising staff induction for permanent and contract team members.

Demonstrating customer centricity daily and maintaining pace, you will nurture constructive relationships externally with the Electricity Authority and internally with Transpower’s OPTI team, wider Operations Division, Information Services and Technology, and Finance. Over time, you will have the opportunity to run small projects and pursue career development into other project-centric, reporting, or analytical roles with us.

Qualifications
  • Prior experience working in a project-driven environment at pace, providing support through project coordination and administration.
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite, including MS Project and Excel.
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial management systems.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, particularly active listening, and the ability to seek clarity and communicate clearly and concisely.
