PMO Lead – Multi-Year Business Transformation

We are seeking a seasoned PMO Lead for a 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract (with strong potential for multi-year extension) to play a central role in a major, enterprise-wide Business Transformation Program.

The foundational PMO structure is already in place. We looking for you to be an adaptable, capable leader who knows how to work with existing frameworks, spot process gaps, and pragmatically adapt PMO controls, reporting, and governance to fit the program's evolving needs.

Working closely with executive stakeholders, you will own program-wide risk and dependency registers, deliver consolidated executive dashboards, and drive continuous improvement across the PMO. Additionally, you will directly manage a team of Project Coordinators and assist with recruitment panels as the capability pool grows.

This team performs critical regulatory work to keep New Zealand safe, secure, and moving forward. This transformation program is modernising key national infrastructure, driving cloud migration, and introducing AI implementations to future-proof operations. By leading the PMO, you will bring structure, consistency, and visibility to complex initiatives that directly impact public safety, transport, and national infrastructure.

By bringing structure, clear reporting, and effective governance to this work, you will directly influence the success of a sector-impacting initiative. The position offers high visibility with program leadership, a collaborative hybrid work model in Wellington, five weeks of annual leave.

About you: You are an experienced PMO Lead or Senior Project/Program Manager with a background in complex digital or business transformation environments. You thrive in dynamic settings, navigate ambiguity with ease, and know how to build practical governance tools without unnecessary bureaucracy.

Key Requirements

• PMO Leadership: Proven track record running a PMO function, managing controls, and leading PMO/coordination teams.
• Governance & Reporting: Expertise in risk registers, executive status dashboards, and secretariat support for senior governance forums.
• Program Delivery: Hands‑on experience with program planning, financial forecasting, and dependency mapping across enterprise programs.
• People & Team Leadership: Strong leadership capabilities to manage, mentor, and assign Project Coordinators to support active workstreams.
• Mindset: Highly resilient, proactive, and capable of building strong collaborative relationships across a passionate, purpose‑driven organisation.
