Job description

Job Description

Haere Mai!

We are the Kaitiaki / Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation. We are proud of our Te Whāinga / Our purpose: Sustainable investment delivering strong returns for all New Zealanders. We invest government contributions to the NZ Super Fund, a global investment fund helping to ensure the country can pay for the growing cost of universal superannuation (New Zealand Superannuation) in the future. We also oversee the Elevate Fund, which invests in small, fast-growing New Zealand companies.

At the Guardians there’s an energy, passion and a shared commitment to excellence: in 2024 the NZ Super Fund was named the world’s best-performing sovereign wealth fund. The work is complex, innovative and intellectually stimulating. Sustainable finance, including a commitment to being net zero by 2050, is core to our Mātāpono / way of working.

Why this role matters

The Guardians are evolving their technology operating model to strengthen core platforms, improve risk and operations, and enable safe, scalable AI adoption. Enterprise platforms sit at the heart of that.

You’ll join the Technology Platforms & Experience function, reporting to the Senior Manager, Technology Platforms & Experience. You’ll own the strategic direction, governance, lifecycle and performance of the Guardians' enterprise and business application platforms, making sure they deliver sustainable business value and stay secure and fit for purpose.

This is an impactful role for a platform leader who wants to set direction, own the roadmap and lead a team of Platform Engineers and delivery partners to lift platform maturity.

Why you'll love working here

You’ll have real ownership of the business-critical systems that keep a world-leading investment organisation running, from investment tools to business applications and integrations.

You’ll lead and grow a capable platform team, partner closely with the business, and your work will directly support a fund that matters to every New Zealander.

What You’ll Do
  • Own the technology strategy, governance and lifecycle of enterprise platforms, including investment tools and business applications such as ServiceNow, NetSuite, Oracle HCM and Workday
  • Look after portfolio, governance and delivery solutions, and application integrations and API connectivity
  • Own the ServiceNow CMDB and asset management
  • Build and maintain platform roadmaps that balance business demand, technical improvement, risk reduction, vendor roadmaps and investment priorities
  • Be the primary relationship manager for platform stakeholders, turning their priorities and pain points into a prioritised pipeline of improvements
  • Lead platform governance and decision-making in line with architecture, security, risk and compliance requirements
  • Set meaningful measures for service health, adoption, user experience, cost and value, and use them to drive decisions
  • Manage vendors and partners across service performance, licensing, contracts, roadmap alignment and continual improvement
  • Lead and develop Platform Engineers, building clear ownership and shifting the team from reactive to proactive
  • Champion simplification, standardisation, automation and the smart adoption of emerging technologies, including AI
What You Bring
  • Experience owning or leading enterprise or business application platforms (ServiceNow, ERP or HCM highly regarded) in a similar organisational environment
  • A track record of developing and delivering platform strategies and roadmaps that create measurable business value
  • Experience balancing business priorities, technology opportunities, risk and operational needs when making platform decisions
  • Proven leadership, including coaching, mentoring and building capability in technical teams
  • Commercial nous, with experience managing vendors, licensing, contracts and service performance
  • A strong understanding of platform governance, service management, security, risk and compliance
  • Experience in product-led, platform-led or service-oriented operating models, and Agile, DevOps or modern delivery environments
  • The ability to translate technical concepts into clear, business-focused outcomes, and to build trusted partnerships across business and technology
What We Offer
  • A dynamic, exciting place to work with a team united by our common purpose of sustainable investment delivering strong returns for all New Zealanders.
  • Competitive remuneration package including base salary, discretionary bonus programme, and up to 8% KiwiSaver matching.
  • World class professional development, career pathways and job rotation opportunities.
  • Comprehensive leave and benefits programme including strong parental leave package and insurance cover.
  • Flexible and accessible work environment that reflects our commitment to equity and an inclusive team.

We encourage and welcome applications from people with diverse experience, including applicants interested in discussing flexible work options and those with specific disability needs. As a proudly committed equal opportunity employer, we challenge discrimination and actively work to eliminate bias in our hiring practices. Diversity of experience and diversity of background help us to solve complex problems and deliver on our purpose.

We recognise the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and invest in partnership with a range of Iwi/Māori organisations. We warmly welcome and value Mana Whenua who wish to work with us.
