Job summary

Greater Wellington Regional Council in Upper Hutt is seeking a Works Supervisor to lead planting operations across the Wellington region, coordinating contractors, managing programmes, and delivering planting, erosion control and restoration projects.

You will ensure safety, efficiency and quality, build strong relationships with landowners and stakeholders, and help deliver riparian and land-management initiatives while complying with health and safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Experience supervising contractors, crews or operational works programmes.
  • Experience in agriculture, forestry, environmental restoration and operations, infrastructure or similar industries.
  • Strong planning, organisational and logistical skills, with the ability to prioritise duties and schedules.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and relationship management skills.
  • A strong team focus and a commitment to health, safety and wellbeing.
  • Good computer, spreadsheet and general technology skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Confidence working independently, solving problems and making sound operational decisions.
  • A full New Zealand driver's licence.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising, directing and managing contractors and crews delivering planting and environmental work programmes.
  • Coordinating operational logistics, resources and scheduling to ensure programmes are delivered effectively.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with landowners, contractors and stakeholders.
  • Monitoring and reporting on programme assets and completed works.
  • Managing site-specific health and safety requirements.
  • Undertaking field-based operational activities.
  • Supporting delivery of riparian, erosion control and sustainable land management programmes.
  • Ensuring works are delivered on time, within specification and to agreed quality standards.
