Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Southern is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Coordinator to lead the new Day Procedure Unit’s operating theatre. You will provide clinical leadership, coordinate perioperative services and ensure safe, high‑quality patient care in a 40‑hour week, Monday to Friday day hours.

You will work with surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health staff to optimise patient flow, theatre scheduling and service delivery, while mentoring staff and driving quality

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Significant perioperative nursing experience, including operating theatre practice.
  • Demonstrated leadership and clinical coordination experience.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • A commitment to quality improvement and patient safety.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in theatre scheduling, resource management, and service coordination is highly desirable.

  • Supporting safe, efficient, and effective operating theatre management.
  • Coordinating patient flow throughout the perioperative journey.
  • Ensuring compliance with clinical policies, standards, and best practice.
  • Supporting, mentoring, and developing nursing staff.
  • Managing resources effectively to meet service demands.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives and accreditation activities.
  • Fostering a culture of patient-centred care, safety, efficiency and continuous improvement.
