Job description

Position: People and Culture Manager - 10 Months-Fixed Term

Datacom Location: Anywhere in New Zealand, though preference for Auckland and Wellington

Security Requirements: NZ Citizens and Residents Only

Our Why

Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help them to use the power of tech to innovate and grow.

About the Role (Your Why)

At Datacom, we believe great people are at the heart of everything we do—and we’re looking for a confident, capable People & Culture Manager to join us for a 10-month fixed-term role. You’ll work closely with leaders across the business to shape culture, lead change, and support high performance in a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment.

This is a role for someone who thrives on variety. One day you’ll be supporting leaders through complex employment relations matters; the next you’ll be shaping workforce strategies, coaching stakeholders, or helping teams navigate change with confidence and clarity. You’ll need to be comfortable operating with ambiguity, be quick to connect the dots, and just as quick to take action.

You’ll partner closely with execs and senior leaders, acting as a trusted advisor and sounding board. Strong relationship-building is key—you’ll need to bring people with you, influence outcomes, and balance commercial priorities with people-centred thinking. This role requires a strong mix of strategic insight and operational delivery, so you'll be just as comfortable in the weeds as you are looking at the big picture.

We have offices based across the country; however, this role would ideally be based in Auckland/ Wellington, and while we value in-person collaboration, we know flexibility matters—so how and where you work is something we trust you and your team to shape together.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide expert advice and support on a broad range of employment relations matters, including complex cases and investigations.
  • Partner with leaders to design and deliver organisational change initiatives, ensuring we manage both business outcomes and people experience.
  • Help shape and implement people strategies aligned to Datacom’s broader business goals.
  • Coach and influence senior stakeholders to lift leadership capability and confidence.
  • Contribute to planning, budgeting, and workforce design decisions, ensuring they reflect commercial realities and future needs.
  • Collaborate across the wider People & Culture function to lead and deliver key people projects with pace and purpose—whether focused on engagement, culture, performance, or continuous improvement.
  • Navigate complexity and ambiguity with confidence, bringing clarity and calm to shifting priorities.

What You’ll Bring

  • At least 5 years’ experience in HR or People & Culture roles, with strong capability in employment relations and change management.
  • A practical, business-savvy approach with the ability to juggle priorities and adapt on the fly.
  • Experience working in large, complex or fast-paced environments—tech or service industry experience a bonus.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the confidence to influence and negotiate at all levels.
  • Proven ability to operate with a strategic lens while delivering hands-on support.
  • Sound judgement, a high level of discretion, and a calm presence under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • A curious mindset, a collaborative working style, and a desire to keep learning and improving.
