Job description

About the opportunity

We are seeking an experienced People & Culture professional to join a growing New Zealand professional services business as it enters an exciting period of expansion.

Based in Cambridge, this is a nationwide role with responsibility for supporting the organisation and its people across multiple locations.

The business currently has an established Auckland office and is in the process of establishing new offices in Tauranga and Whanganui. This is an exciting opportunity to join at a pivotal stage and play a key role in supporting that growth.

About the role

This is a broad and hands-on People & Culture role, responsible for all aspects of HR across the organisation.

Working closely with the leadership team and employees at all levels, you will take ownership of the people function and provide practical, commercially focused HR support across the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through to development and offboarding
  • Providing trusted HR advice and support to leaders and managers
  • Supporting the growth and establishment of new offices in Tauranga and Whanganui
  • Managing recruitment, talent attraction and onboarding
  • Developing and maintaining HR policies, procedures and processes
  • Supporting performance management and employee relations
  • Providing advice on employment legislation and ensuring HR practices remain compliant
  • Supporting employee wellbeing, engagement and development
  • Maintaining accurate HR records, systems and reporting
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to the employee experience
  • Supporting organisational development and culture initiatives
  • Providing general HR guidance across all levels of the organisation

This is not simply an HR administration role. You will be the key People & Culture contact for the organisation, with the opportunity to shape the function and influence how the business supports and develops its people as it grows.

About you

We are looking for an experienced HR professional who enjoys working in a growing business and is comfortable taking ownership.

You will ideally have:

  • Several years' experience in a broad HR or People & Culture role
  • Strong knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation
  • Experience providing HR advice to managers and senior leaders
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A practical and solutions-focused approach
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to work autonomously while building strong relationships across the organisation
  • Confidence dealing with a wide range of people and employment matters
  • A genuine interest in creating a positive, engaged and high-performing workplace

Experience within professional services, engineering, construction, building services or consultancy would be advantageous.

Why this role?

This is an opportunity to join a successful and growing organisation at an important stage of its development.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Take ownership of the People & Culture function
  • Work closely with the leadership team
  • Make a genuine impact on the organisation and its people
  • Help shape HR practices and culture as the business grows
  • Support the establishment of new locations
  • Be part of a growing New Zealand business with a strong focus on its people

If you are an experienced HR professional looking for a role where you can make a real difference, take ownership and help shape the people function of a growing organisation, we would love to hear from you.
