Payroll Officer
Airedale Property Trust (APT) is a property investment, management and development trust affiliated with the Methodist Church (MMN) of New Zealand. Together, the Three Trusts (MMN, APT and Lifewise) hold and manage directly a portfolio of social housing, retirement villages, retail and residential properties. The payroll function is part of the Finance team who provide a shared service across The Three Trusts.
Purpose of Position
The Payroll Officer plays a pivotal role in supporting the Group Payroll Manager to ensure the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services across The Three Trusts. As second-in-command (2IC), you will oversee day-to-day payroll operations, maintain adherence to relevant legislation, and act as the primary escalation point in the Payroll Manager’s absence. This role involves providing responsive and effective payroll support to the employees of The Three Trusts, as well as the Individualised Funding Health & Disability team, clients and employees

What You’re Responsible For
Payroll Processing
- Process fortnightly payroll for The Three Trust employees and Individualised funding employees in accordance with company policies and statutory
- As the second-in-command (2IC), you will be overseeing day-to-day payroll operations, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and stepping in to lead the team in the Payroll Manager’s absence
- Act as a point of escalation for payroll queries and resolve complex
- Maintain and update payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and changes in the payroll
- Submit Payday filing, PAYE payments and
- Preparing Month-end reports – FTE, leave liability reports, etc
- Ensure all IRD and all other government related compliance are completed within the required timeframes and
- Organises the allocation of time in a safe and sustainable manner to meet immediate payroll

- Maintaining data integrity through regular audits and accurate record-
- Ensure compliance of all payroll transactions with legislation and policies
- Assisting with Audit
- Ensure privacy and security of confidential, personal and payroll information at all
Team work
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with key internal and external contacts and function as an effective team
- Train and mentor junior payroll
- Provide support to wider Finance and HR

Essential Qualifications & Experience
- 4 to 5 years’ experience as a Payroll Officer or in a similar role
- 4 to 5 years’ experience using Payglobal
- Project experience such as, implementation of Time & Attendance system or configuration of new payroll setup in
- Strong understanding of NZ payroll legislation
Desirable
- Experience with Collective Agreements and answering Union
