Job summary

Responsibilities

• Assess how payment systems and the ecosystem are evolving, identifying implications, opportunities and risks for Westpac.
• Evaluate emerging payment technologies and capabilities, including digital assets, tokenisation, digital identity and future payment developments.
• Identify capability gaps and technical changes required to support future payment developments.
• Develop recommendations and business cases to inform investment, prioritisation and readiness decisions.
• Provide specialist advice to senior leaders and governance forums on payment evolution and trends.
• Leverage industry partners to inform Westpac's understanding of future capabilities and opportunities.
• Identify opportunities where external partnerships can accelerate capability uplift and modernisation.
• Build organisational understanding through stakeholder engagement and thought leadership.

Mō te tūranga | About the Role

This role will shape Westpac's readiness for the future of payments by identifying emerging capabilities, assessing ecosystem developments, and translating industry and technology change into clear actions for the bank.

• Assess how payment systems, payment capabilities and the broader payments ecosystem are evolving, and identify implications, opportunities and risks for Westpac.
• Evaluate emerging payment technologies and capabilities, including digital assets, tokenisation, digital identity, agentic commerce and other future payment developments.
• Identify capability gaps, dependencies and technical changes required to support future payment system and ecosystem developments.
• Develop recommendations and business cases to inform future payment capability investment, prioritisation and readiness decisions.
• Provide specialist advice and insights to senior leaders and governance forums on payment system evolution, industry developments and emerging payment trends.
• Leverage strategic partners, industry forums and payment service providers to inform Westpac's understanding of future payment capabilities and opportunities.
• Identify opportunities where external partnerships, industry developments or emerging technologies can accelerate capability uplift, modernisation outcomes or future payment innovation.
• Build organisational understanding of future payment developments and implications through stakeholder engagement, education and thought leadership.
