Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau seeks a Pain Specialist/Senior Medical Officer to join our Chronic Pain Service. Be part of an experienced multidisciplinary team delivering patient-centred pain care across South Auckland.

The role is based at the Manukau Super Clinic with potential to work across other settings, including inpatient pain management for suitable candidates. Part-time (~20 hours/fortnight) with the possibility of splitting.

Qualifications

• Primary specialist medical qualification in a relevant specialty such as Anaesthesia, Medicine, Surgery, General Practice, Psychiatry or Rehabilitation
• FFPMANZCA or equivalent qualification is preferred
• Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
• A current Annual Practising Certificate
• Experience or training in chronic and/or complex pain management
• Knowledge of contemporary pharmacological approaches to pain management
• Familiarity with non-pharmacological approaches and multidisciplinary pain programmes
• Strong communication, assessment and clinical decision-making skills
• A collaborative and patient-centred approach to care

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive multidisciplinary pain assessments
• Develop individualised treatment and management plans
• Utilise pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management strategies
• Collaborate with primary care, hospital services and community providers
• Offer education and support for patients and whānau
