Overview

The congregation of the Little Sisters of the Poor offers a warm and welcoming home to Dunedin’s aged poor at Sacred Heart Home & Hospital in Brockville. Our philosophy of family spirit is the cornerstone of our delivery of care, embracing residents, their whānau, staff and benefactors.

The role:

This is a permanent, part-time night-shift position, working Saturday & Sunday and every second Monday (42.5 hrs per fortnight) with possibility of extra hours to cover staff absence across all shifts.

Our night team plays a crucial role in ensuring our residents feel safe, respected, and well cared for while the rest of the world sleeps. You will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring the health and wellbeing of our residents overnight
  • Managing medications and responding to clinical needs
  • Providing comfort and reassurance during the quiet hours
  • Accurately documenting care and reporting changes
  • Leading and supporting overnight care staff

Qualifications and attributes

  • Is a NZ Registered Nurse with a current APC
  • Has experience in aged care nursing (preferred)
  • Is calm under pressure and able to act decisively
  • Has strong observation and clinical assessment skills
  • Is independent and confident in after-hours decision-making
  • Is compassionate, respectful, and resident-focused
  • Possesses excellent communication and handover skills
  • Is physically and mentally resilient with good stamina
