Introduction:

Mo tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role

You will be part of the team managing the region’s parks and open spaces. This includes the management of sports parks and recreational facilities, playgrounds, reserves, cemeteries, public conveniences, halls and pavilions, street trees and garden plots, tracks and trails, swimming pools, memorials and community amenities to a standard that meets community needs and expectations.

You will be undertaking the role and responsibilities of Parks Ranger throughout the Marlborough district covering urban and rural areas.

The purpose of the role can include:

  • Casual position covering leave taken by permanent incumbent
  • Carry out monitoring, security and enforcement patrols on Council land and properties.
  • Provide assistance to Council officers and contractors performing their duties as requested.
  • Promote the best interests of Council through proactive involvement with, and education of, users of Council land and the community as a whole.
  • Regular liaison with Police to ensure issues with joint impact are communicated.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate records.

This role requires someone with:

  • Excellent organisational & initiative abilities.
  • Strong community engagement and public relations.
  • An ability to handle yourself professionally in confrontational situations.
  • An understanding of or researching Acts that Council operates under (the Freedom Camping Act, the Local Government Act and the Litter Act and others)
  • An understanding of the infringement process
  • Proven experience in enforcement
