About the Role

We are seeking a Paediatric Senior House Officer to join our Paediatric Department here at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital. The 2027 training year commences on 18 January 2027, with mid-year intakes on 19 July 2027.

The combined RMOs rotate through a shared roster, ensuring coverage across all acute areas, including the Childrens Ward, Special Care Baby Unit, and Delivery Suite. The role also offers introductory supervised experience in Outpatients Clinics.

At the start of the rotation a range of training opportunities, such as Newborn Life Support and introduction to acute paediatric care, are offered with Senior House Officers receiving instruction and support from senior staff.

There is an opportunity to sit for the Diploma in Child Health making this an excellent placement for RMOs interested in paediatrics as a career. Additionally, there is a well-established pathway for those ready to transition into a Registrar training position. This rotation also provides valuable paediatric experience for those pursuing careers in General Practice, Emergency Medicine, and other specialties.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The 5 Paediatric Senior House Officers work as a team with 5 Registrars, a Paediatric Fellow, and 9 Specialist Consultants.

Our department is fast paced and offers substantial exposure to a broad range of paediatric cases, from very preterm babies to teenagers. Our Paediatric Team is supportive and cohesive and dedicated to the professional development of RMOs at all stages of their training.
